Literature Text

here behind the tinted glass
I watch the world go by

alone and out of time
I’m like a message in a bottle

and this river now shall toss me
out to sea

step out to see what shore I land on
sure the sand on every hand will bring me comfort

remind me of the desert land
that I abandoned

but the river only flows one way
and the letter once unfurled is out forever

so I run for cover in another
dark tower

here behind this tinted glass
I watch the world go by.
EIsenhower Hall is the building most of my classes are in it's an old stone building and I like to sit at the top of the stairwell and study. there's even a place to plug in my computer there, it's my little on campus office with a view.

tonight I had two hours to wait between a panel discussion about careers and a poetry reading and I sat there, realizing for the first time that the glass is tinted so I can see out but nobody could possibly see me sitting there.

that is what inspired this poem.

I really like the analogy here, comparing yourself to a message in a bottle. I just find it neat that the tinted glass is compared to a bottle, because they're usually made out of tinted glass, and the whole concept was easy to grasp, I just never would have thought of it myself.

So...really cool poem. :D
